WHY FACEBOOK NEEDS A DISLIKE BUTTON

Alright - a bit of true speak. We're all thinking it.

Most of us are irked by the plethora of opinions and comments that float around the Facebook ether. It's one thing to have an opinion, it's a WHOLE other thing when you awkwardly see wars happening on Facebook threads about otherwise trivial aspects of social events that we only take part of in a cyber-way, and honestly, I would be totally fine with this, if there were a way to actually say what you think, but there isn't really.

This is the big problem with Facebook. You can't really say what you think. You have to say what you think, covered in chocolate, or Agave for the vegans.

I don't know how it happened, but Facebook has created this culture of faux positivity. What I mean by that is that you are taking a risk challenging someones post because if your opinion does not fit the conventional wisdom of said post, which is often never questioned, you are immediately pushed aside as a "hater" or being intolerant.

This problems exists in part because there has never been a real way to "thumbs down" something on Facebook - now, I'm not sure if thats a solution, because lets face it, Facebook is like a giant internet work cocktail with 1000 people you don't really know but want to flash your "fake life" to. So what happens when someone gets serious on a post is, well, people don't care enough to contradict - so you will get one of two responses.

1) people who will just echo your own opinion (most cases)

or

2) A contradictions wrapped around niceties and compliments and fake understanding.

How many times does someone start with "i understand what you mean... but..." which is like when they talk about Richard in Silicon Valley. RIGB.

Whenever someone on Facebook stands up and talks passionately about what I would call, "non popular belief" the Facebook mob attacks!! Maybe I'm being a bit dramatic and none of this actually matters - but if you're reading this during the day - let me continue to entertain you.

Facebook needs a balancing agent. A way to dislike stuff. Why not?? This way we just have to accept all the nonsense people post. And don't tell me that those emoji's do the trick. It's as if Facebook was built to avoid any offense whatsoever, which you know, is opposite to the mantra of being a badass.

So Facebook. Be badass. Let us thumbs down you please. Oh and also, I can tell the difference between real and fake news but thanks for the offer.
